The Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon (2nd Gen, 2014) is an older reference point worth including precisely because it shows how far ultrabook engineering has moved. It shipped with an Intel Core i7-4600U, Intel HD Graphics 4400, and 8GB of soldered DDR3-1600 memory.
Lenovo offered a 14-inch WQHD (2560x1440) IPS display at 300 nits on the higher configuration, backed by a 256GB SSD and a 45Wh battery — modest by current standards, but respectable for its era. At 1.28 kg, it was considered exceptionally light for a 14-inch business laptop in 2014.
The ThinkPad X1 Carbon 2nd Gen launched at around $1,399, and remains a useful baseline for comparing a decade of battery and display improvements in the ThinkPad X1 line.
