LG Electronics introduced its 2026 LG gram lineup on 2 January 2026, ahead of CES, and the 17-inch LG gram Pro, model 17Z90UR, was its headline for gamers and creators who want a large screen and a discrete GPU without the usual weight. LG's press release calls it the world's lightest 17-inch RTX laptop and says the 17Z90UR will be available exclusively in North America. The lineup also brought a new material, Aerominum, and what LG calls Dual AI. This page collects what LG has published in its global newsroom, in its US launch release of 30 April 2026 and on its global business product page, and it points out several places where LG's own documents give different numbers.

Aerominum and the weight claim

The chassis is built from Aerominum, a composition LG says it developed to reduce weight while reinforcing structural strength. LG describes an aeroplate structure and an atelier-brushed finish that improve scratch resistance, and its product page adds that the finish helps reduce fingerprints. In a footnote LG says the 2026 16-inch model with Aerominum is up to 40 g lighter than the 2025 16-inch model of the same display size, and that Aerominum raises surface hardness from 2H to 4H, about 135 percent better scratch resistance, comparing the 2025 16Z90TS with the 2026 16Z90U. That footnote is about the 16-inch, not this 17-inch model. LG also says the gram Pro, gram Pro 2-in-1 and gram meet MIL-STD-810H durability, and the product page says the laptop passed seven MIL-STD-810H tests run by an independent laboratory, with the standard caveat that passing does not make it suitable for military use.

The weight itself is where LG's page contradicts itself. The key features list, the summary table, the full specification and a gallery graphic all give 1,739 g for this configuration, or 3.84 lb, with a thickness of 16.7 to 17.2 mm and dimensions of 379.4 x 265.4 mm. A feature section on the same page says LG gram Pro "combines an incredibly light weight of just 1,499g with a thin, super-slim 13.3mm profile", with a footnote saying thickness and weight are derived at the thinnest and lightest point respectively. The two sets of numbers cannot both describe the same configuration, and LG does not say which variants the lighter figures apply to. This page uses 1,739 g and 16.7 to 17.2 mm, because they come from the specification for the 17Z90UR, and treats 1,499 g and 13.3 mm as a lightest-and-thinnest-point marketing figure. LG's own claim of "the world's lightest 17-inch RTX laptop" is footnoted as based on publicly available specifications of 17-inch RTX laptops as of January 2026, and it is not independently verified.

Processor, graphics and memory

The specification lists an Intel Core Ultra 9 processor 386H with 16 cores (4 performance, 8 efficient and 4 low-power efficient), a performance-core maximum of 4.9 GHz and 18MB of cache. The page also states an NPU rating of 50 TOPS. Graphics are an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5050 Laptop GPU with 8GB of GDDR7, which the LG press release names as the latest RTX 5050 with 8GB of GDDR7, and LG's page quotes NVIDIA's claim of up to four times the performance of the previous generation with DLSS 4 Multi Frame Generation. Memory is 32GB of LPDDR5X in dual channel at 8533 MHz. LG says memory of up to 32GB and storage of up to 1TB are supported, with an additional NVMe expansion slot; the specification lists dual M.2 SSD slots and 1TB of storage. On the storage generation, the key features line says NVMe Gen4 while the specification says Gen5 NVMe for the slots, another inconsistency on the page.

The page states that Copilot+ PC certification applies to Windows models with 16GB of memory or more, and it says the laptop runs on-device AI called gram chat, powered by LG's upgraded EXAONE 3.5 model. LG notes that On-Device AI is meant for one-time requests rather than continuous conversation, that the feature supports English and Korean, and that gram chat Cloud is free for up to one year after registration with no paid subscription offered afterwards on the global page, while the US release says users may subscribe as a paid service after one year. That is a small difference between LG's regional documents.

Display

The display is a 17-inch 16:10 IPS LCD at WQXGA, 2560 x 1600, with touch. LG quotes 99 percent DCI-P3 coverage (typical) and 1500:1 contrast, and the touch feature is described for direct interaction with content. The page gives conflicting figures for some details. Brightness is 350 nits typical in the display feature section but 400 nit in the full specification. The refresh rate is described as variable from 30 Hz to 120 Hz in the feature section, while the specification lists 31 to 144 Hz VRR and the gallery graphic repeats 31 to 144 Hz. The contrast ratio appears as 1500:1 in the key features and specification but as 1200:1 in the alt text of one display graphic. The safest reading is that the panel supports variable refresh and that the exact range and brightness vary between LG's descriptions, so check the label of the unit you buy.

Battery, charging and cooling

The battery is 90 Wh, and LG says it delivers up to 32.5 hours of usage, measured under video playback at 150 nits with wireless off and headphones at default volume, and that the figure is the maximum condition. A 140W AC adapter with a USB-C to USB-C cable is supplied. On cooling, LG describes a dual-fan design and a Mega dual cooling system, and says fans support airflow up to 21 percent higher than the previous year's LG gram 16Z90TP, based on internal testing, with an AI cooling mode that takes effect after a BIOS update that installs on first boot. That is an LG comparison against a different, smaller model and is not independently verified.

Connectivity, input and sound

There are two Thunderbolt 4 USB-C ports (listed as USB4 Gen 3x2 with Power Delivery and DisplayPort), two USB 3.2 Gen1 Type-A ports, an HDMI 2.1 port for 4K at 60 Hz and a four-pole headset jack. Wireless is Intel Wi-Fi 7 BE211 with Bluetooth 6.0, and an RJ45 Ethernet option depends on country and SKU. The keyboard is full size and backlit with a numeric keypad and a large 131.5 x 83.6 mm touchpad. Sound is Dolby Atmos through four 3.0W stereo speakers with a Smart AMP up to 5W. The webcam is an FHD IR unit with a dual microphone for face recognition. LG's global product page shows the colour as Brushed Bronze, with an aluminium-magnesium body and touch glass on the display.

Software and ecosystem

LG bundles gram Link, which it says connects LG gram laptops with Android, iOS, Windows and webOS devices, including LG TVs, monitors and projectors, for file transfer, screen mirroring and notification sync; the page notes the webOS integration works on webOS26 devices. ThinQ allows remote lock and erase if the laptop is lost, with support scheduled to begin from the first quarter of 2026 and varying by country. Pre-installed software also includes My gram, LG Update and Renew, and trial versions of Microsoft 365 and McAfee.

Operating system and other conflicts

The specification lists Windows 11 Pro for this model, while a gallery graphic on the same product page shows Windows 11 Home. The prudent reading is that the operating-system edition depends on the SKU. The 17Z90UR is described as a North America model in LG's global release, yet LG's global business page also lists it. For the record, LG's US release lists a related 17-inch gram Pro, SKU 17Z90U-G.AU75U1, at 1,649.99 dollars in April 2026, but that SKU is not identified as the RTX 5050 version, so this page does not give a price.

Where it fits

For readers weighing this against other large-screen creator and gaming laptops in our database, our LG gram Pro 17 versus ROG Zephyrus G16 comparison shows the differences in GPU class and weight, and the Razer Blade 16 is a further point of reference for a premium 16-inch machine with a discrete GPU. Our explainer on laptop versus desktop GPUs helps put an RTX 5050 laptop GPU in perspective, while our comparison of the best thin and light laptops and our deep dive on battery life and thermal throttling cover the trade-offs of a light chassis. All models are in the laptop category.

Bottom line

The LG gram Pro 17 is a lightweight 17-inch machine with a real discrete GPU, a large 90 Wh battery and a touch display, built from a new aluminium alloy. Its best claims, the lightest-in-class weight and the 32.5-hour battery figure, are LG's own and are qualified in its footnotes. The page for this model contradicts itself on weight, thickness, refresh rate, brightness, storage generation and operating system, so buyers should confirm the specification of the exact SKU they intend to purchase.
